Event: Capturing Joo Chiat through the lens of Camera
Venue: Joo Chiat Community Club – Auditorium & Multi-purpose Hall
Date: 13th May till 10th July 2008 (Competition Date)
20th July 2008 (Workshop cum Closing Ceremony)

Target Group: Nationwide Photographers
Organizing Committee: Joo Chiat and Siglap South CC youth groups

Objectives of Event:
To dissolve differences and create networks between different photographers.
To cultivate cultural appreciation through the art of Photography.To allow the sharing of ideas and skills among photographers as a community

Theme: “Flavours of Joo Chiat”
This theme was chosen because it combines two important inter-linked elements: Photography and cultural identity. Without a strong sense of cultural identity, people today may not feel rooted in our home. This competition gives the participants the opportunity to see, feel and ultimately show the world what Singapore and their home means to them.

Activities:
1. Photo Exhibition of individual works
2. 1-2 workshops with conductors that specialize in different areas.
3. Large Scale Photography Competition in relation to the theme
4. Presentation of photos cum prize presentation.

Overview of Event:

Photography is a popular hobby and in recent years, has spurred a rapidly growing interest among the youths of today.

In Singapore there is a growing apathy towards Singapore’s political and cultural atmosphere in the youth of the country. Too few of our youth are able to appreciate National icons and symbols with regards to the country’s culture, needless to say appreciating the rich culture in their own constituency.

This project aims to achieve three goals: first, to bring photographers together so as to, dissolve differences and create networks between them: second, to cultivate cultural appreciation through the art of photography: and third, to allow the sharing of ideas and skills among photographers as a community.

Judging Criteria:
1. Relevancy to theme- The photos submitted must be relevant to the theme set "Flavours of Joo Chiat".
2. Technical Competence- Composition, lighting and creativity.
3. Quality - The works displayed must exhibit certain quality of the photographs taken.
4. Quote/Caption/Title/Poems- The works displayed must be accompanied with phrase/quote/caption/title/poems to describe the photograph and let others know what the photographer trying to deliver.

Maximum words for each phrase/quote/caption/poem are capped at 100 words.
